Infrared Thermography Scanning

IR CameraWhat is IR (infrared) Thermal Imaging?

A non-visible measurement of radiation, having a wavelength from about 2-15 microns. Every object emits an amount of radiation (electromagnetic energy) between 2-100 microns, compared to that of a blackbody. That amount is called emissivity. Without going into an extremely lengthy and very technical description, in short, this emittance is calculated into a thermal image (spectral range), which provides a temperature scale expressed as two temperature values limiting the colors. This provides a real time picture transmitted in temperature related colors instead of light refraction. (pictured above: FLIR B2 IR Camera)

How does an infrared camera work?

An infrared camera is a non-contact device that detects infrared energy (heat) and converts it into an electronic signal, which is then processed to produce a thermal image on a video monitor and perform temperature calculations. Heat sensed by an infrared camera can be very precisely quantified, or measured, allowing you to not only monitor thermal performance, but also identify and evaluate the relative severity of heat-related problems. Recent innovations, particularly detector technology, the incorporation of built-in visual imaging, automatic functionality, and infrared software development, deliver more cost-effective thermal analysis solutions than ever before.

Home Energy Audits:

Home energy audits are performed in two phases:

Phase One: An Interior inspection of the home using a Thermal Imaging camera, which will reveal where warm or cold air may be entering your home.

Phase Two: An Exterior inspection of the home using a Thermal Imaging camera, which will reveal areas of your home that expensive heating or air conditioning is escaping.

Building Tightness Evaluation: Uses state of the art equipment that utilizes a negative air blower and infrared thermography camera to inspect and evaluate the home or building for energy loss from leakage, inadequate insulation, poor combustion, zone air deficiencies, and other building related problems.

Electrical, Plumbing, and HVAC Evaluation:

Electrical: Anytime a fuse or circuit is running abnormally hot, it could become dangerous, and be Costing you money!

Plumbing: Find concealed leaks in water and sewer lines. Find blockages in sewer lines. Find water leaks behind walls, below floors, and above ceilings.

HVAC: Find concealed blockages in HVAC ducts, bathroom exhaust vents, and dryer vents. Find wasted energy loss (heat or air conditioning) around the HVAC system. Locate uninstalled or disconnected duct lines.

Mold and Moisture surveys: Infrared moisture surveys can help in locating areas that have the potential for mold growth which could lead to health concerns, and become quite costly to repair. Aiding in the locating foundation cracks, defects, and drainage concerns. Pinpoint water intrusion areas, roof and attic leaks, hidden plumbing drip leaks with in walls, concealed appliance leaks, and door and window failure causing water damages and leading to mold growth.
